It is not actually known who invented the cocktail as no historical evidence or timeline can be found that would enable us to ascertain where and when the cocktail came into creation. It is, however, certain that there have been a number of influences that lead to the making of the first cocktails.

• Availability of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Curious consumers that were eager to try something new and exciting.
• Suitable establishments with the knowledge that would enable them to create something original and different

So with this in mind we are able to estimate how cocktails became intergrated into society and have a slightly clearer timeline, it is also theorised that sometime in the late 19th century, (as it was not until that time that there was sufficent practical knowledge to produce the ingredients in order to create such concoctions).
