Daisy
Daisy
A Daisy is a long cocktail with a high proportion of alcohol and sweetened with fruit syrup. Perhaps it gets its name from the now old-fashioned slang when th word 'daisy' referred to something exceptional and special.
4-6 cracked ice cubes
3 measures gin 1 measure lemon juice
1 tbsp grenadine 1 tsp sugar syrup
soda water, to top up slice of orange,
To decorate
Put the cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the gin, lemon juic grenadine and sugar syrup over the ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms. Strain into a chilled highball glass ar top up with soda water. Stir gently, ther decorate with an orange slice.
Variations
Star Daisy:
put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour 2 parts gin, 1 '/j parts apple brandy, 1 'A parts lemon juice, 1 teaspoon sugar syrup and 'A teaspoon triple sec over the ice. Shake vigorously until a frost forms, then strain into a chilled tumbler and top up with soda water.
Rum Daisy:
put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour 2 measures golden rum, 1 measure lemon juice, 1 teaspoon sugar syrup an a teaspoon grenadine over the ice. Shake until a frost forms. Half fill a small, chille tumbler with cracked ice and strain the cocktail over it. Decorate with a slice of orange and a cocktail cherry.
